VISIT TO QUEX HOUSE - JUNE 2017

A coach trip was organised for members to visit Quex House  & Park near Ramsgate in Kent.
It took place on Wednesday 14 June which proved to be one of the hottest days of 2017 so far.
Here is what Sandra had to say about it:

"A great day out and everything went to plan. The sun shone, the Motorways behaved. As soon as we arrived we were greeted and told some of the estate’s history.

Percy Powell-Cotton created a unique museum at Quex Park, to reflect the experiences of his travels and to show to the people at home in England the world he discovered during his journeys. He believed the animals that he hunted and collected in the late 19th and early 20th centuries were making a contribution to science.

I am not a lover of museums but this one fascinated me the most with its interesting display of animals in beautiful dioramas. The museum also displays the many artifacts he collected, including exquisite beadwork and embroidery of the natives.
The park was well kept with the help of lots of volunteers and there were plenty of picnic tables at which I enjoyed my lunch, together with a glass or two of wine.
I visited the walled garden and then went to the very well stocked garden centre. I had a fleeting look at the Barn food shop and managed to eat an ice cream before boarding the coach home.
There was so much to see that I missed visiting the house and the woodland walk. Thank you Jenny and Julie for arranging - it was a perfect day."

ONE WORLD GROUP OPEN GARDENS 2017

Here is a selection of photos taken on Monday 29 May whilst visiting five local gardens open to support the Oxted One World Group.
This year there were two gardens in Bluehouse Lane, one each in West Heath, Grub Street and Godstone Road.
What an inspirational treat it is to see the fruits of all the effort that has gone into preparing the gardens. The images can only hint at what could be seen.

ST MARY'S CHURCH TATSFIELD: FLOWER FESTIVAL

Over the end of May 2017 Bank Holiday the good people of Tatsfield created a most colourful and pleasurable display of floral decorations. A real feast for the eyes, and each exhibit with a story to tell. The whole enterprise was titled "Tatsfield Village Life".
The photos below only hint at what it was like to see inside the church in all its glory.
Congratulations to all concerned. All the effort to bring the Festival about was really worth while.

We enjoyed a very good morning on Saturday 20 May at the Red Cross Hall, Oxted for our Annual Plant Sale. This is our main fund raising event of the year, and the net contributions to funds was greater than 2016.

We were also very fortunate to have such a large donation of of plants, so a very big thank you to all the growers, and to all those who came along and supported the event.

Any plants that were unsold went on to St Mary's School Fayre, and any unsold from there go on to the One World Group Open Gardens on Monday 29 May.
